Moussa Djitté and Sebastian Driussi led Austin FC to its first victory over rival FC Dallas with a spot to the Western Conference Final on the line. The Verde now head to Los Angeles with 90 minutes separating the club from its first MLS Cup Final.
 
Down in Houston, candidate names have started to leak as Dynamo FC continues its second coaching search in as many years under GM Pat Onstad.

Austin FC survives first playoff match, awaits winner of FC Dallas vs. Minnesota United

The first MLS Cup Playoffs test for Austin FC featured plenty of dramatic moments but it was MLS MVP candidate Sebastian Driussi and fan favorites Diego Fagundez and Brad Stuver who showed up big for the VERDE.

The winner of Monday's FC Dallas and Minnesota United FC match will book a trip to the Texas capital for next Sunday's Western Conference semifinal at Q2 Stadium.

It was a generally quiet week for the Texas teams due to the international break, but Victor Araiza, Jon Arnold, and Chris Bils each kept a close eye on their respective teams and even got to play a game called "In Your Dreams." They also covered the following storylines: 

  • FC Dallas took advantage of the international break to play a friendly against UANL Tigres. 
  • Austin FC took the international break to rest and come out swinging in the playoffs.  
  • Meanwhile, Houston Dynamo FC look to finish their last games strong and fill their vacant head coach spot.

MLS experts Victor Araiza, Jon Arnold, and Chris Bils opined on what happened in Space City as well as how Austin FC and FC Dallas are doing as they come close to clinching playoff spots. 

  • With just a few games left in the season, the Dynamo parting with Nagamura came as a surprise. 
  • FC Dallas dominated Minnesota United FC, moving into third in the Western Conference. 
  • Meanwhile, Austin FC had rough outings against Portland and Nashville.
